OCUL earnings analysis

What we found in OCUL's 10-Q: the parts that mattered, the offsets in the same document, and what the company said about what comes next.

Our reading of the filing · Free to read, no account needed

Ocular delivered essentially flat year-over-year Q2 revenue of $13.475 million, though revenue improved sequentially and EPS loss narrowed to $0.35 per share. Profitability deteriorated year over year as operating expenses reached $95.584 million and operating loss expanded to $82.109 million, while higher gross-to-net deductions pressured DEXTENZA economics. The principal offset is AXPAXLI: positive SOL-1 data support a planned Q4 2026 NDA, and $598.6 million of cash is expected to support the current plan into 2028, albeit with continued high cash burn and likely additional launch funding needs.

What stood out

The parts that mattered.

Pulled out of the filing itself, with the figures the company reported.

DEXTENZA revenue improved sequentially
Q2 net revenue was $13.475 million, up $0.080 million, or 0.1%, year over year from $13.459 million and up from the $10.785 million implied in Q1 2026 by the $24.260 million first-half total. All product revenue was from DEXTENZA.
EPS improved despite modest margin pressure
Gross margin was 85.1% in Q2 2026 ($13.475 million revenue less $2.011 million cost of product revenue), versus 85.6% a year earlier. Net loss per share improved to $0.35 from $0.40 in Q1 2026 and $0.39 in Q2 2025.
AXPAXLI registration plan remains on track
SOL-1 met its Week-52 visual-acuity endpoint: 65.9% of AXPAXLI patients maintained vision versus 44.2% for aflibercept 2 mg, a 21.1% risk difference with p<0.0001. The company plans a wet-AMD NDA submission during Q4 2026.
Cash runway extends into 2028
Liquidity was substantial at $598.6 million of cash and cash equivalents at June 30, 2026, versus $82.5 million of Barings term-loan principal. Management states this cash should fund the operating plan, debt service and capex into 2028.
Diabetic-retinopathy program was streamlined
Management streamlined HELIOS-3 to a single once-yearly AXPAXLI regimen, eliminating the every-24-week arm and reducing planned enrollment from about 930 subjects to about 620 subjects in June 2026.
What to watch

And the other side of it.

The offsets in the same document — the things a summary that only listed the good news would have left out.

Losses widened as launch spending accelerated
Operating loss widened to $82.109 million in Q2 2026 from $67.641 million a year earlier, producing a -609.3% operating margin versus -502.6% in Q2 2025. Selling and marketing rose $3.547 million and G&A rose $7.813 million as the company builds for a potential launch.
Higher discounts constrain DEXTENZA monetization
Gross-to-net provisions rose to 55.0% of gross DEXTENZA sales in Q2 2026 from 51.7% a year earlier, driven primarily by off-invoice-discount changes. Management expects provisions to remain at this elevated level or increase further through the remainder of 2026 and beyond.
Cash burn and capital needs remain elevated
Six-month operating cash use increased to $133.265 million from $99.909 million in the prior-year period, while capex was $8.029 million versus $3.048 million. Management says additional funding will likely be required to support near-term AXPAXLI commercialization if approved.
Confirmatory SOL-R catalyst is distant
SOL-R randomized 640 subjects, but topline data are not expected until Q1 2028; the interim safety analysis planned for Q4 2026 incurs a 0.0001 alpha penalty for SOL-R's primary analysis.
New EyePoint litigation remains unresolved
A new EyePoint lawsuit filed March 20, 2026 asserts 4 claims and seeks injunctive relief, damages and attorneys' fees. The court denied a temporary restraining order on April 13, 2026, but had not decided the preliminary-injunction motion after hearings on May 5 and July 7, 2026.
No formal risk-factor updates in the 10-Q
The formal Item 1A risk-factor section did not identify new or revised risk factors; it incorporates the February 5, 2026 Form 10-K risk factors. The material new disclosure is instead the March 20, 2026 EyePoint litigation described in Item 1.

Guidance

What they said about what is next.

No numeric revenue or EPS guidance was provided in the 10-Q. Management expects continued DEXTENZA revenue growth for the remainder of 2026, partly offset by higher gross-to-net adjustments; it anticipates an AXPAXLI wet-AMD NDA submission in Q4 2026, interim SOL-R safety analysis in Q4 2026, and SOL-R topline data in Q1 2028. Existing cash is expected to fund planned operations, debt service and capex into 2028, although additional funding will likely be required for near-term AXPAXLI commercialization if approved.
