Home BancShares delivered stronger revenue and net interest income in Q2 2026, with net interest margin improving to 4.51% and adjusted diluted EPS of $0.64 despite $12.7 million of MCBI-related expenses. The MCBI acquisition materially increased loans, deposits and liquidity, while operating cash flow also improved. However, nonperforming loans more than doubled to $185.3 million, net charge-offs increased, and the company remains highly concentrated in commercial real estate. Overall sentiment is neutral because balance-sheet growth and funding trends were positive but credit deterioration and integration costs offset the operating gains.
The parts that mattered.
Pulled out of the filing itself, with the figures the company reported.
- Revenue and net interest income grew
- Total consolidated revenues increased 5.4% year over year to $390.3 million from $370.2 million. Net interest income increased 9.8% to $244.3 million on a fully taxable equivalent basis, supported by higher average earning assets.
- Net interest margin improved
- Net interest margin expanded to 4.51% from 4.44% year over year, while the cost of interest-bearing liabilities declined to 2.45% from 2.73%. Management attributed the improvement to lower funding costs and the MCBI acquisition.
- MCBI materially expanded the balance sheet
- The MCBI acquisition added approximately $1.77 billion of assets, $1.47 billion of loans and $1.54 billion of deposits. The company issued approximately $146.0 million of common stock consideration and paid no cash consideration other than fractional-share settlements.
- Operating cash flow strengthened
- Operating cash flow for the six months ended June 30, 2026 was $248.3 million, up from $195.4 million in the prior-year period. Purchases of premises and equipment were $14.9 million, implying six-month cash flow after capital expenditures of approximately $233.4 million.
- Liquidity and funding remained strong
- Deposits increased to $19.11 billion from $17.48 billion at December 31, 2025, while cash and cash equivalents rose to $1.05 billion from $667.3 million. Management reported total available liquidity of $6.76 billion at June 30, 2026.

And the other side of it.
The offsets in the same document — the things a summary that only listed the good news would have left out.
- Nonperforming loans more than doubled
- Nonperforming loans increased to $185.3 million, or 1.08% of total loans, from $85.0 million, or 0.54%, at December 31, 2025. Management attributed much of the increase to one $92.1 million loan relationship placed on nonaccrual status.
- Credit costs and charge-offs increased
- Net charge-offs rose to $5.8 million in Q2 2026 from $1.1 million in Q2 2025, and the net charge-off ratio increased to 0.14% from 0.03%. Six-month net charge-offs were $7.2 million versus a $3.0 million net recovery in the prior-year period.
- High commercial real estate concentration
- Commercial real estate loans totaled $9.03 billion, or 52.7% of total loans, and represented 198.6% of stockholders' equity at June 30, 2026. The filing states that repayment capacity depends substantially on real estate values, tourism demand and regional economic conditions.
- Investment portfolio has sizable unrealized losses
- The available-for-sale portfolio had $226.9 million of unrealized losses, including $223.2 million on securities in loss positions for more than 12 months. Held-to-maturity securities had an additional $106.1 million of unrealized losses.
- Reliance on brokered deposits increased
- Brokered deposits increased to $587.3 million from $435.7 million at December 31, 2025. Management cautioned that brokered deposits could outflow if the company's condition or reputation deteriorates or if market rates change materially.
- Acquisition integration costs weigh on expenses
- Quarterly merger and acquisition expense was $12.7 million, while non-interest expense increased 16.8% to $135.5 million from $116.0 million. Core deposit intangible amortization also increased 42.7% to $2.9 million.
