What we found in AUTL's 10-Q: the parts that mattered, the offsets in the same document, and what the company said about what comes next.
Our reading of the filing · Free to read, no account needed
Autolus delivered strong commercial momentum in Q2, with revenue up 118% year over year to $45.689 million, AUCATZYL gross margin at approximately 55.2%, and the net loss narrowing to $39.111 million. Operating cash burn also improved, but the company remains deeply loss-making and incurred $90.386 million of operating cash use in the first half. Liquidity is supported by $201.6 million of cash and marketable securities plus the $75.0 million Perceptive proceeds, although future funding includes expensive, conditional debt and potential dilution. Overall, improved commercialization and efficiency are offset by ongoing capital needs, cost normalization risk and long-dated pipeline milestones.
The parts that mattered.
Pulled out of the filing itself, with the figures the company reported.
- AUCATZYL revenue more than doubled
- Total revenue increased 118% year over year to $45.689 million from $20.923 million. AUCATZYL product revenue was $45.672 million, driven by higher doses administered, expansion into new treatment centers and U.K. sales.
- Gross margin expanded to 55%
- Gross margin improved to approximately 55.2% from approximately negative 16.8% a year ago, as cost of sales fell to $20.468 million from $24.445 million despite the 118% revenue increase. Management cited higher volumes, improved Nucleus facility utilization and operational efficiencies.
- Loss and EPS improved
- Q2 net loss narrowed 18% to $39.111 million from $47.917 million, while operating loss improved 28% to $43.838 million from $61.217 million. Reported EPS was $(0.15), ahead of the $0.19 consensus loss provided in the earnings row.
- Revenue growth accompanied by R&D discipline
- Six-month revenue rose 140% to $71.907 million from $29.905 million. Six-month R&D expense declined 9% to $49.108 million, primarily from a $12.672 million reduction in direct B-cell malignancy/obe-cel spending.
- Operating cash burn decreased
- Operating cash use declined to $90.386 million in the first half from $148.346 million a year earlier. Property and equipment purchases were $3.6 million, equal to approximately 4.0% of operating cash use.
- Efficiency program largely completed
- The April workforce reduction affected approximately 13% of employees and is expected to reduce operating expenses by approximately $15 million annually beginning in 2027; the majority of the approximately $8 million restructuring charge was recognized in the first half.
And the other side of it.
The offsets in the same document — the things a summary that only listed the good news would have left out.
- Persistent losses require additional capital
- The company remains loss-making, with a $39.111 million Q2 net loss and an accumulated deficit of $1.4975 billion as of June 30, 2026. Management states it expects significant expenses and operating losses for the foreseeable future.
- Liquidity remains dependent on execution
- First-half operating cash outflow was $90.386 million, while cash and cash equivalents were $171.4 million and marketable securities were $30.2 million at June 30, 2026. Management cautions that actual revenues and expenses could vary materially and that additional financing may not be available on acceptable terms.
- Expensive, conditional financing
- The post-quarter Perceptive facility carries interest at one-month SOFR, subject to a 3.50% floor, plus 7.25%, and includes a warrant for up to 3.5 million ADSs at $1.9314 per ADS. Up to $150.0 million of additional capital is contingent on specified revenue milestones, creating financing-cost, dilution and availability risk.
- Gross margin may face normalization
- AUCATZYL cost of sales was $20.468 million, or 45% of revenue, and included $1.2 million of inventory write-downs and $1.6 million of third-party royalties. The filing notes that gross margin benefited from zero-cost inventory, with approximately $0.4 million of additional Q2 cost of sales if previously expensed manufacturing costs were included.
- Commercial infrastructure weighs on expenses
- SG&A increased 36% to $41.161 million from $30.265 million, including $7.4 million of higher salaries and employment-related costs, mainly from termination and severance costs. Management also anticipates higher SG&A as it supports commercialization and public-company requirements.
- Pipeline timelines remain extended
- The 10-Q states that there were no material changes to risk factors from the latest 10-K. Nonetheless, clinical and regulatory execution remains uncertain: pediatric CATULUS data are not expected until the end of 2027, LUMINA data are expected in 2028, and initial AUTO8 data are expected at the end of 2026.

What they said about what is next.
The 10-Q does not provide numeric revenue or EPS guidance. Management states that $171.4 million of cash, $30.2 million of marketable securities, the $75.0 million received from Perceptive, and expected AUCATZYL proceeds should fund current and planned operating expenses and capital expenditures for at least twelve months from issuance. The filing also states that an additional $25.0 million may be available under the Perceptive facility and up to $150.0 million may become available upon revenue milestones; FY 2026 revenue guidance was disclosed in the prior 8-K rather than this 10-Q.
