Onboarding guide
Use these steps to learn the core Optionomics workflow. The goal is to get comfortable moving from broad market context, to one ticker, to a trade decision you can track.
Step 1: Personalize your starting point
Start by choosing your trader style. It tells Optionomics what kind of trader you are right now, then seeds a starter watchlist, alert ideas, and a more useful first dashboard.
Open For you after choosing a style. This is your personalized home base and the best place to start each session.
You can re-pick your trader style later from Preferences -> Trader style.
Step 2: Build a watchlist you actually use
Add 5-10 symbols you already understand or actively trade. Good starter symbols are:
- Index ETFs you use for market context, like SPY or QQQ.
- Liquid names where options activity is meaningful.
- Stocks you already monitor for trade setups.
Your watchlist powers For you, alerts, AI prompts, saved views, and filtered research. If the app feels noisy, start by narrowing views to your watchlist.
Step 3: Read the market from broad to specific
Use Market Overview first to understand the broad backdrop. Look for whether the day is risk-on, risk-off, concentrated in a few sectors, or unusually active.
Then open Stock Analysis for one watchlist symbol. Use the chart, Greeks, premium, volume, skew, term structure, and volatility surface to understand what the options market is pricing for that name.
Step 4: Learn flow and unusual activity
Open Live Options Flow when you want the full tape. Filter to your watchlist or one symbol while learning so you can connect prints to price action.
Open Unusual Options Activity when you want a higher-signal view. UOA helps you find trades that stand out because of size, premium, volume, urgency, or context.
As you review flow, ask:
- Is this activity bullish, bearish, or neutral?
- Is it one large print or a cluster?
- Is premium meaningful for this symbol?
- Does it align with the chart and broader market?
Step 5: Turn signals into a workflow
Use Saved Views for filters you repeat, like watchlist-only flow or high-premium UOA.
Use Alerts when you know what you care about but do not want to watch the screen all day. Start with a few high-signal rules:
- Unusual premium on watchlist names.
- Bullish or bearish flow clusters.
- Price or volume conditions for symbols you actively trade.
Step 6: Track decisions and keep learning
Use Trade Ideas for AI-assisted setups worth reviewing, not automatic trades. Compare each idea against the chart, flow, and your own risk plan.
Use the Trade Journal for anything you act on. Add the reason you entered, what signal mattered, and how the trade ended.
Over time, your journal helps answer:
- Which signals do I act on?
- Which setups work for me?
- Am I reacting to noise or following a plan?
Step 7: Learn terms as you go
Use the Glossary whenever a term is unfamiliar. Start with the terms you will see most often:
- Premium
- Sweep
- Block
- Open interest
- Implied volatility
- Gamma
- Delta
- Put/Call ratio
- DTE
- Unusual activity
